The Yampa River Botanic Park is a free, six-acre gem about a mile west of the lodge — a relaxed 15-20 minute walk along Lincoln Avenue, a 5-minute drive, or a scenic ride on the Yampa River Core Trail by bike or on foot. Over 60 unique themed gardens wind alongside quiet ponds and river views, with seasonal live music, events, and guided tours woven in throughout the summer. It's open dawn to dusk from May through October and is one of those unexpected, lovely spots that guests are always glad they made time for.

Fish Creek Falls

About 3.5 miles east of the lodge — a quick 10-minute drive up Fish Creek Falls Road, heading north on 3rd Street from Lincoln Avenue. A 283-foot waterfall awaits at the end of a short, family-friendly quarter-mile walk, with longer trails into Routt National Forest for those who want more. It's one of the most rewarding and easy half-days you can have in Steamboat, any time of year.

Old Town Hot Springs

Just a 5-minute walk east along Lincoln Avenue, Old Town Hot Springs sits at the corner of 3rd and Lincoln — almost a neighbor. Eight mineral-fed outdoor pools, two waterslides, a climbing wall, and a full fitness center make it a perfect pre- or post-adventure stop. The free city bus also stops right outside if you'd rather ride.

Steamboat Art Museum

Just a 5-minute walk west along Lincoln Avenue, the Steamboat Art Museum sits at 807 Lincoln Ave in the heart of downtown — practically a neighbor of the lodge. Housed in the historic First National Bank building, it features rotating Western and contemporary art exhibits and is open Tuesday through Sunday. A great rainy-day stop or a relaxed way to wind down an afternoon between adventures.

It's one of Steamboat's most pleasant summer surprises.

A trailhead entrance is less than a block from the lodge, behind the Bud Werner Memorial Library, making this one of the easiest activities to jump into. Rent an e-bike right at the Nordic Lodge front desk and cruise the full 7.5-mile paved trail along the river, passing Howelsen Hill, the botanic park, and scenic overlooks. It's a great way to see Steamboat at your own pace, on two wheels or on foot.

Pro Rodeo

About a 10-minute walk from the lodge via 5th Street, the same route as Howelsen Hill. The PRCA Pro Rodeo Series runs every Friday and Saturday evening from mid-June through mid-August, with special performances over the Fourth of July and the Bull Bash on Labor Day Weekend. It's a classic Steamboat summer night out that's hard to beat.

Tubing Down the Yampa River

The 5th Street Bridge put-in for commercial tubing is less than a 10-minute walk from the lodge — just head down 5th Street toward the river. Local outfitters handle tube rentals, life jackets, and shuttle service, so all you have to do is show up and float through downtown for one to three hours of easy summer fun. Reserving your spot in advance is recommended, as daily trips are limited. Tube down the beautiful Yampa River this summer with Backdoor Sports for $25 (+ tax).

Howler Alpine Slide

Located at the Howelsen Hill complex just across the Yampa River — about a 10-minute walk from the lodge via 5th Street, right next to the rodeo grounds. Hop the chairlift to the top and ride a sled down 2,400 feet of winding, banked track through the natural terrain of Howelsen Hill at your own pace. It's one of Steamboat's most fun warm-weather activities for all ages, and you couldn't be closer to it.
